Wedding season seems to taper down around the colder months which is inevitable due to the lack of good weather and the chaos of the holidays. If you are a bride looking to have a unique wedding you should start thinking about one of the winter months you may have previously crossed off your list. Not only are venues more readily available during these months, a lot of times they are more cost effect during the "off season" which only leaves more money in your budget for some fun extras. Just because you might have to stay inside because of the wintery conditions doesn't mean you shouldn't use the elements to your advantage!
DECOR
There are many elements of winter to love! From pristine white snowflakes, to clear, glassy ice that glimmers, there are many different themes to go with and a much broader spectrum of colors to use. Darker, heavier colors that may seem out of place in warmer months are now in their prime. Jewel tones highlight the depth and romance of the season; sapphires and teals compliment snow and branches while deep ruby and amethyst compliment more rustic and rich decor. Branches + seasonal greens can be used in place of flowers and are easy on the budget.
LIGHTING + VENUE
Choose your lighting based off of your theme elements and venue. Cool shades and gem tones will work well with decor that may include snowflakes or ice and tend to be more modern. Warm shades to create more of a cozy environment and complement decor centered more around wood, berries, and more rustic themes. A barn or winery with classic decor may be better suited for a warmer themed wedding where as a large hall or reception venue may be better suited for the airy, open feel of a cool and icy wedding. Twinkling lights can be used to mimmic falling snow and you can create a winter wonderland all your own for your guests to enjoy!
DRESS + BRIDESMAIDS
The colder times of year allow the winter bride to explore her options by wearing a dress with sleeves, heavier beading, and more luxurious materials. Texture is key! Do not be afraid to explore your options as they will have doubled moving into the colder months! Of course you can still go strapless or sleeveless to capture the look of a fairytail-like an ice princess (a really pretty + nice one). A (faux) fur shrug is a glamorous addition to any gown!
Too much? No way.

FOOD + BEVERAGES
Heavier dishes that may not work well with spring and summer months but are a perfect compliment to making your guests feel cozy and warm in your winter wonderland. A twist on comfort foods will make your guests feel right at home. Warm seasonal beverages will also be a hit. Try a "hot chocolate bar" or make your special drink something unexpected like Hot Mulled Cider...yum!
Mini pot pies and warm drinks, yes please!
CAKE + DESERT
The options for a gorgeous winter cake are endless! Be it stark white, warm off-white, or covered in silver snowflakes...the world is your oyster! We love fondant cakes elegantly decorated in seasonal items such as white pinecones, snow peaks, and ice covered birch twigs. Your desert table can compliment your cake and is a good place to tie in your theme and colors.
EXTRAS + FAVORS
Outdoor fireplaces or a "chimineas" can line a pathway to welcome guests inside, keep the valet area warm, or aid in entertaining an outside cocktail hour if the climate permits. Warm throws can be placed on seating around fireplace or lounge areas for your guests to snuggle in. Favors can be as simple and DIY as "hot chocolate in a jar" or even these beautiful pine tree saplings wrapped in burlap that we have pictured below.
We hope you are having a warm and cozy winter!
XO,
AVE42
